Re: A few shots from Manchester in the 1970's and 80's

Excellent shots Russ and welcome to the forum! Love the Transamerica 747 pic with the Air Ecosse Bandit in the foreground. The Nationair DC-8 shot brought back a few memories too! You are right about that era being the glory days of spotting, you only need to look at all the people in the last shot ...

Re: A few shots from Manchester in the 1970's and 80's

A bit late, but a Happy New Year to everyone! Great shots Uzzy! I'd also forgotten about Peregrine! Fantastic to see the British Island 1-11 again too. Andy - I remember some friends of mine commenting about the heating on the old Cyprus 707 too! For today's bit of nostalgia, here's part of an old i...

Excellent photos Uzzy! Great seeing those Viscounts, 330's and 360's again. I agree with Reggie nice to end on the Twotter, it's a cracker! Gary - the Orion Air 747 photos were excellent. I remember the media and television interest over the 'flying pig' with it's 'technical delays' and :gr...

Re: A few shots from Manchester in the 1970's and 80's

We must have been spotting around the same time Blackdog, I was another of those weekend spotters from the mid eighties. I remember those timetables from the WH Smith shop too, in fact I kept a few of them. It's quite interesting to look at them now and see all those long-forgotten names from the pa...

The fourth one of the United 757 rotating is a cracker with the snow on the hills in the background, as is the Titan 757! The light at this time of year really sets those pictures off a treat. Great set of photos!

Superb pictures Gary! Great to see the piccies of the old BAF Viscounts. I've got some old camcorder footage on youtube of G-AOHM up at Aberdeen. Crank up your speakers before you watch it though  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQo77bO028I Here's my bit of nostalgia for today.... Air Americ...

Talking of Kemble...has anyone been round the Bristol Aero Collection, is it worth a visit?

Skud - yes I remember the Laker 707's parked on the south side when they went bust. There was also an A300 and a couple of BAC 1-11's parked up by the freight area too if I remember correctly. Do you remember the Okada Air Bac 1-11 that sat there for about a year, it must have been around the mid 80...

Re: A few shots from Manchester in the 1970's and 80's

Fantastic pictures Gary. I love the one of the BOAC VC-10 and of course, the Laker DC-10 - superb pictures! Nice to see the Orion 737 too, often used to log that one along with G-BGTV. I can just see the Qantas 747-200 sat over by the old cargo apron. I remember it used to arrive fairly early on in ...

Re: A few shots from Manchester in the 1970's and 80's

Many thanks for posting pictures of the old terraces Gary. Excellent photos, they instantly took me back to the many hours I spent up there spotting back in the 80's! It was a real trip down memory lane seeing them and brought back a lot of happy memories! Aaah, the old yellow steps leading down to ...

Hi Noryport, skudupnorth and Camerman. Thanks for posting the Newcastle pics John, those are great landing shots of the UK 146 and the Gill Air ATR! The Air UK 146's looked pretty smart in the new colours. You're right - can't help thinking I've seen that Worldways DC-8 somewhere else  We just ...

Pity they closed the piers but i guess thats way things are nowadays plus to be honest i cannot get that excited about modern airliners like i...

Re: A few shots from Manchester in the 1970's and 80's

Hi Matey, I really must get myself sorted out with a scanner and post some of mine from Ringway. Thanks for posting. I too also had a soft spot for the CP's especially their DC8's, along with the beautiful Super VC10's from BOAC/BA. Thanks Reggie, yeah the CP DC8's were really nice planes. They wer...

A few shots from Manchester in the 1970's and 80's

Here's a few of my shots from Manchester taken when i was just a young 'un armed with an old Kodak Instamatic camera! Not great quality and the photos have sadly deteriorated, but there's a few classic airlines and airliners from the past, including my all time favourite, CP Air. Enjoy the trip down...

Whisky at 80p per half bottle sound good to me, especially if it's a nice Balvenie or Bruichladdich! Came across this old Laker Airways Bar Tariff from 1976 while sorting out some boxes the other day. Sadly wasn't old enough to buy a can of Whitbread for 12p at the time  http://lh5.ggpht.com/_M...

Re: Couple of oldans

That sounds like an ideal spot for a dinner break! Sadly never managed to get to Ian McFarlane's shop but it sounds like it was one of those places where you could do some serious damage to your wallet! Pity about the slides, he must have had quite a collection of slides if he had full ramp access. ...

Great pics John. :thumb: The Worldways Canada DC-8 brought back a few memories! Where was it taken? Nice shots of the One-Eleven and the ATP! I often used to see G-AVMP at Manchester in the 80's when it flew with BA. The One-elevens were lovely planes, could have done with a pair of ear defenders wh...
