Bristol - with an Anniversary thrown in

Yup, another 4 day week - so I spent the day at the 'viewing area' at the 09 end at Bristol Lulsgate. Cloudy most of the time, but the sun broke through on a few occasions. Hope you like my selection from the day! 1. https://c1.staticflickr.com/8/7092/27013954040_fc86f50c5e_b.jpg Bristol Airport - 2...

Bristol International (Lulsgate) May 2009

Had another trawl through the digital piccies on my hard drive last night/this morning, and have made a selection from Bristol International that were taken on 24 May 2009. Mostly EasyJet, but also have Aer Arran, First Choice, Aurigny, Flybe, Thomas Cook, Eurocypria and Ryanair to choose from. On t...

Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival (Somerset)

Last night, Bridgwater held it's annual 'Guy Fawkes' Carnival, which has evolved from the celebrations held in the town when the Gunpowder Plot was discovered in 1605. People from around the UK, and further afield, cram along the route, with an estimated attendance of 125,000+. Around 120 entries ta...

Re: Great Torrington Cavaliers - Trumpton Bonfire

Thank you. According to the entry programme, the idea/theme was decided on in 2013, and planning permission was given in early 2014. I would imagine those involved for the first time experience feelings like you describe, but knowing that the money raised is going to good causes probably helps off s...

Great Torrington Cavaliers - Trumpton Bonfire

Every 5 years, the Great Torrington Cavaliers build a large, themed, Bonfire with an associated Fireworks display on the Common land on the edge of the North Devon town. I first went to a Bonfire in 2000, when the theme was Great Fire of London (£40,000 raised for Charities). In 2005, a half-sized r...

Re: Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2015

Thanks to acw367, mach one and SteveB. Great anecdotes about the balloon landing on the golf course, and the teamwork getting the baskets etc over the school gates! The mass ascent is certainly a sight worth seeing. One year, I made a late decision to go to Bristol for a Sunday evening launch, and p...

Re: Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2015

Some great shots, it was a tricky morning to fly with the direction, airspace restrictions and a very light and variable wind. I was driving 'Fishtank' if you shot that. :D I was one of the sensible pilots that didnt fly the last slot Ah, you mean this one..............................................

Re: Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2015

Thanks for the comments Mike, andygolfer and norwichmike - much appreciated. Looking forwards to seeing more images too :thumb: :thumb: I first went in 1987, which I think was one of the last appearances by George, the Hofmeister Bear. Virgin Atlantic had balloons there as well, which were made to l...

Bristol Balloon Fiesta 2015

Got up around 3am yesterday morning to see the morning ascent at Bristol Balloon Fiesta :o :o For the first time that I can remember in the years that I have visited, the Balloons were flying towards Bristol Airport, so I was on the wrong side of the arena for the launch. Here is a selection from th...

Clifton Suspension Bridge, Bristol

I went to Bristol Zoo a couple of days ago, and on the way home I decided to stop and get a few photos of Brunels' handywork. Work first started on the Bridge in 1831, but due to the funds running out the Bridge wasn't completed until 1864 - after Brunels' death. The toll fee to drive across the Bri...

BA A380 with friends at RIAT Fairford

Hi all I went to the Royal International Air Tattoo at Fairford yesterday, and pleased to see an Airbus A380 operated by an Airline for the first time - the others I have seen have been in the Airbus livery. As I'm sure you're already aware, the A380 made two passes with the Red Arrows - before maki...
