Manchester 25 June 2022

I spent a short time on 23L/5R on Saturday. It was windy and got cloudy quite quickly but I still ended up downloading 942 images taken over a period of 1 hour and 20 minutes. Getting trigger happy like this leads to hours of time spent sorting and deleting before getting down to editing. When will ...

Manchester 02 June 2022

I took advantage of the sunlight on the rather welcome extra bank holiday and went to my usual spot alongside 05R/23L. I took both my 7D mk2 and my RP and used both bodies. The results are below and are in time sequence. 7D indicates taken with the 7D2 and RP taken with the RP. I still prefer the im...

Looks like it's just escaped from prison. Are they seriously going to stick with that livery?

Re: photo competitions - your thoughts and feedback please

Andy, I am one of those who disappeared during the Covid period and now that more aircraft are flying, I should be back on a more permanent basis. I hope that others are coming back in the same way now that things are getting back to normal. As an "old timer" myself, I found it encouraging to see a ...

Ian, great images on both 2nd and 3rd June. The Hondajet is stunning - despite the sun not cooperating.

Jonathan, excellent images and some really interesting aircraft there. I hope at least some will get back into use as things get back to "normal".

Andy, a great selection there. I particularly like the Jet2 A321 and the colour scheme that I've never seen before. Thans for posting.

Re: Manchester 28 May 2022

Flying Colours, it was a perfect day to get back to a job you enjoy. Hope the flight was memorable. Andy, I must admit that I am still torn between the better image from the RP against the optical viewfinder of the 7D2. I might hire a Canon R7 for a day (when its available) to see if its worth the u...

Manchester 28 May 2022

I went back to Manchester on Saturday, this time with my 7D mk2. I much preferred using an optical viewfinder again (with no lag) but was surprised to find that my RP images from two weeks ago are sharper overall easier to edit. I guess that mirrorless is the future, much as digital was against film...

Manchester 14 May

For the first time in just over two years, I managed to get out to Manchester for a few hours. I had not used my Canon RP for aviation photography before and found the shutter lag very disconcerting. Although the image quality was more than acceptable, I think that next time I will go back to using ...

Re: Manchester 30 November

Thanks everyone. I just hope we get a bit more sunlight and not too much mud over the next few months. Bella was fine once we got to the car - I will be taking her to the airport with me more often. She knows that a pond is near where I set up my tripod and in summer, disappears every now and then f...
