On Floats - UK

Hi, we do not see many float equipped aircraft here in the UK. My first sightings were at The London Plane Show, held on The Southbank, back in May 1973. Present were G-BAUL Schweizer Teal, and G-BASO Lake LA-4. In 1980, they mowed the grass at the site of Croydon Aerodrome, and held a show. Float e...

Re: On Floats - Canada, Alaska

Thanks-
over the years, in the UK we have had Lake L-4, Teal Amphibian, Volmer Sportsman, Grumman Goose etc even DH82A Tiger Moth G-AIVW with floats. Maybe folk will share some pics if I start a thread under theme topic or nostalgia.

On Floats - Canada, Alaska

Hi, we do not get to see many float aircraft in the UK. Some places in Canada / Alaska seem to use them as easy as we would use a car. Here is a flavour of what can be seen. (Taken with a Fuji Bridgecamera). Maybe, a theme topic of UK amphibious aircraft could be of interest? Pete C-FJBP Beaver Whis...

Lovely stuff. Thanks. Particularly like the interest of the L-410, Xingu and Merlin.

EMA 3/1/2016 IL76 RA-76951

Just seen landing on FR24 - IL76 RA-76951 Volga Dnepr VDA7209. Was just behind D-AALG B777 Aerologic BOX521.
I believe that the IL76 is one with the newer engines, so not governed by noise restrictions.

Re: Lelystad Aviodrome

Go for it Bob, you will have a great day. If you are into photos, the lighting inside is reasonable, but like many museums the exhibits are rather squeezed together in places. There is a small raised area for viewing the airfield, from which you will only see a handful of light a/c in front of the h...

Thanks, Rugbyref. Update appreciated.
Low cloud cover lately has limited me with what is happening, and I had not read it anywhere.

Lelystad Aviodrome

Older members may remember that there used to be an Aviodome Museum in the middle of Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. It was forced to move and in 2003 opened at Lelystad Airport as the Aviodrome. It is fairly easily reached by train and bus from Amsterdam Central. It is an active airfield, and some of t...

Re: Old Malev hardware on display in Budapest

Thanks for posting the pictures. I was lucky enough to go there back in 2004. A lot of work done on them since then, not all were painted up then. For the record back then - An-2 HA-MHI, IL-18 HA-MOA, Lisunov Li-2 HA-LIQ, Tu134 HA-LBE, Tu154 HA-LCG, Yak 40 HA-YLR. The IL-14 was still in rough colour...

Hello

Hello, I first went to an airport in 1971 - Queens Roof Gardens at Heathrow, and became hooked. Gatwick followed, how great it was to go out on the pier, and look down on the aircraft. A time of viewing areas, and greater freedom at airfields. Airshows too - Biggin Hill - May Air Fair, September Bat...
