Washington to LHR, off for a bit of a holiday in the USofA and the A380 starts on that route 2 days before we fly back.
Out to Toronto on a 747, will be nice to fly on one again before they all retire.

Royal Ascot week, helicopter arrivals
I'm planning a trip to either Ascot or Battersea next week for royal Ascot when there are high numbers of helicopter movements, Ladies' day on the Thursday (19th) appears to be the busiest. Battersea is relatively easy for me but reading the spiel a lot of the helicopters fly into Ascot from elsewhe...

thanks for posting, nice set of pics in excellent weather. Looks quite quiet and exhibits very accessible- what was the attendance like?
downside for me would have been the long grass, I think I would hve been suffering with hay fever all day long

Re: POTM / SPOTM voting discussion topic
how didthe email votingg work please badly , it was poorly supported with far fewer votes and then some poor moderator/admin had to collate the votes. The voting poll is far more popular and easier for most to use. If you mean how did it operate then there is a clue in the word 'e-mailing'. Have a ...

Re: POTM / SPOTM voting discussion topic
That's quite an innovative way of looking at and not without it's merits. I think they call it 'thinking outside the box'BringBackEGDG wrote: If you wish to continue with the present system then 3 votes without the honesty policy ( 1 for me plus I vote for 2 others )

SPOTM/POTM voting polls discussion topic
I've split this into a separate topic for discussion on the voting polls as it was in the May SPOTM poll and is about the polls more generally. There have been questions about how we run the polls for POTM & SPOTM from time to time and most recently in the May SPOTM so I have started a new topic on ...

Re: Voting poll for May 2014 SPOTM
i some time wonder (for the reasons given above) if 3 is too many votes and maybe reduce it to 2 - shall we run a poll on it? Yeah - why not? :thumb:

I think the time has come to split this topic out and try to get a consenus , followed by a poll. i'll have a go ...

Re: Voting poll for May 2014 SPOTM
You could enforce the honesty policy by having a look in the poll_votes database table, but you'd need to follow the relationships to the poll_options and users tables to work out who voted for what. Probably too much effort unless you're happy mooching around in databases! I dont think that honest...

Re: Voting poll for May 2014 SPOTM
The only other way to do it would be to limit the votes to 1 per member and then rely on their honesty to not vote for themselves. Why some cannot cast 3 votes is beyond me ! i some time wonder (for the reasons given above) if 3 is too many votes and maybe reduce it to 2 - shall we run a poll on it?

Re: Voting poll for May 2014 SPOTM
Steve -thanks for the comment. Nearly every month we find that the total votes are indivisible by 3, even when there were 42 that was probably a case of more than 14 people voing and not using all 3 but coincidentally the total was divisible by 3. I don't know why it happens when there is a large nu...

Re: Proposed changes to photography military photo rules
I have to admit that Terry has now got me thinking a bit more (and wavering). This is why: One line of reasoning behind the proposal was that it might encourage more postings and thereby increase the membership. Taking Terry's approach ( or nearly all of it ) If I put up 20 pics of a visit to LHR an...

Thanks for the feedback Terry even if I dont agree with all of it. as you say some is just opinion but i've happily read through it all twice before responding, so - let's have a go and a response to the main points without moving too far off the topic subject: If you wanted to know how to make the ...

Re: Proposed changes to photography military photo rules
sorry if it offended, it wasnt meant to but I did hope to explain that the nostalgia forum wasn't changing so wasn't perceived until it was raised. At that point the mods discussed it a bit and Mike posted our thoughts on 28-5 (4? posts back). I think that certainly distracted people from the origin...

Re: Proposed changes to the photography forums and posting r
We are hoping to come up with a ruling shortly but unfortunately the topic drifted off into the discussion on 'nostalgia' and what was deemed reasonable - it needn't have done so because we didnt propose to either amalgamate the nostalgia forum with any others or change it's rules but the military i...
