Re: Qatar C-17 MAA in Manchester tonight

The Qataris are generous with their response to natural disasters and other humanitarian gestures world-wide and it wa...

Re: FlyBE mode S or lack of them

As far as I know ADS-B involves sending the position information. A Mode-S system has the ability to poll aircraft by using their individual hex codes, rather than a four-digit squawk code. Mode-S can also downlink other parameters from the aircraft such as speed and vertical speed to mention but tw...

Re: FlyBE mode S or lack of them

They do have Mode S; it's mandatory in UK airspace classes A and C. What they don't do is send the extended squitter signal which contains position information - this is not (yet) compulsory.

Re: Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens

Sorry, I've only just noticed this thread.

I use one of these lenses too. I purchased it on the strength of a magazine review which called it "..a superb all-rounder". I have no reason to disagree with the reviewer!

Ground VFO?!

If you're asking for the Ground frequency at Leeds-Bradford, there isn't one. The closest thing is Delivery on 121.8 MHz but it isn't active all the time.

Re: A few East Mids oldies

I remember seeing one of BMA's 707s crew-training at EMA, painted in Sudan Airways colours. After a particularly rough landing the tower controller came on the radio: "XXX landed at time 35, 35 plus 10 seconds and 35 plus 20 seconds!"
