Re: Turweston Air-Britain Fly-in 19 June 2021

LE, thanks for some classics . One favorite caught my eye , as the reg. seemed a tad familiar .. Going to the Air Brit 'fotos virtually confimed it . Diving , not into the attic , they've been promoted to spare room wardrobe.... to retrieve the stack of logbooks . Into the first .. Yes , August 1971...

Re: Surprise Visitor G-CIVY B744 Newquay 21/2/2020

Mike , thanks for reply ... Only just caught up .. That was probably the last 744 to come off heavy maintenance in Cardiff . Due the last 18 months of mayhem , and all Ba 744s being retired / scrapped . Think every thing I flew on has been retired apart from some 75s and ATPs which have been freight...

Uuoret , Bergen is about 60 degrees N , same as Shetland ... We used to get some fearsome winds up there . 100kts one night in LSI .... Must have caused the rocking .....! 'Wotever happens North of Glasgow , stays North of Glasgow .. Been off having a new knee , but now catching up on your posts . P...

Re: Surprise Visitor G-CIVY B744 Newquay 21/2/2020

Mike , BA Cardiff does heavy maintenance on the widebodies , 744s especially . Most likely post a 'D' check . Very , very , unlikely crew training . The 744 sims are 'zero' flight time rated ... In practice that means the conversion course is..... Ground school to Technical exam . Sim training to ty...

Uuoret , Thank you for all your hard work in bringing alive fond memories of '70s EDI . Spent a lot of time there , even dating lovely BCAL local lass . Gee WiZZ brings back memories .. Was lucky enough to fly her last 3 flts . SUN ? Nov 4th 1984 LHR-EDI-LHR in the morning . My sector back from EDI ...

Re: G-AWZT Trident Edinburgh September 1976

Thanks for poignant remembrance to all lost . Was on T1/2s at the time , deadheaded back to LHR that day . One of the 'gurls was in a right flurry trying to get hold of her hubby who was on T3s. [ no mobs then ] luckily on a different trip . Pax sat next to us , he should have been on that flt [ sho...

Re: Apron at Turnhouse looking both ways, 1975/76

Plug ugly T3 nosing in ... Only good when empty , cold , low fuel and lit the 'Boost' for a great get away . Otherwise stopping was interesting on EDI's 13 and ABZ's 17 . Both had an interesting variety growing in respective cabbage fields a time or two . Never heard of a de havilland cabbage before...

Big like for Jimmy's kitchen and steaks ...No beer as were on Shuttle Back Up ... Standby to fly the back-up T1 if the the front runner T3 was full .... Then we had the Irish [ but really Iris , shuttle controller who invented the concept ] Back-up .... departed before the front runner when front ru...

Re: Helicopters in the Snow, Sumburgh Winter 1982

Gives a very good flavour of the RWY 33 approach ... Descending past 500' leavitng the lighthouse on the Right wingtip [ 1st and last shot ] . Keep descending aiming at the quarry [ scallop shape on hill in both BCAL shots ] . roll on to final over the red light on Sumburgh House Hotel [ 1st and las...

Re: Visited an Old Lady a couple of days ago.....

Designed in the '50s ,
but speedbrake , park brake , throtts , start , flap , and gear levers all very nearly the same as the 10,000 737 delivered to SW days ago .
Don't re-invent the wheel , and if it ain't bust , don't fix it .
