Compton Abbas Vintage Fly-In 3rd June 2023

The Hughes family name will remain etched in Dorset aviation folk-lore as the family responsible for putting Compton Abbas Airfield firmly on the map. In late 2022 it was announced that the Hughes family had sold the airfield to a Mr G Ritchie. Everybody presumed that this was the nail in the coffin...

Heathrow 09R Departures

Took advantage of some great weather and the fact that Heathrow were on Easterly ops to capture some Runway 09R departures, in no particular order https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51978940832_429eb982d0_h.jpg YRMXB B737-8 MAX BMS_b by Chris Parsons , on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...

Helicopter Club of GB visits Middle Wallop

Some members of the Helicopter club of GB paid a short visit to Middle Wallop this afternoon. Despite the strong winds 7 of the 8 helicopters that were booked in arrived. Middle Wallop rarely has civilian visitors these days so these images are more for the record than anything else. https://live.st...

Hi Neil

Restoration of a classic 737!

Just before Xmas Bournemouth Aviation Museum took delivery of a 737-200. It had spent many months stored at Hurn before it was acquired by the museum. Eventually it will become a memorial to Mr Peter Bath, the owner of travel company Bath Travel who in turn operated aircraft under the 'Palmair' logo...

Dick Richardson's Retirement Fly-In - Popham 26th August

Catching up a bit here!! The bank holiday weekend at the end of August saw Popham say goodbye to its long time manager Dick Richardson. Dick has helped make Popham one of the most friendly airfields for the enthusiasts in the UK, even above a couple of incidents the access we'd all got used to and e...

Compton Abbas - Sunday 14th July 2013

Spent an enjoyable day at Compton Abbas Airfield in Dorset last Sunday, wall to wall shine and lots of goings-on. I believe Compton is the UK highest active airfield and boy do they know how to make good cakes!! The 'Compton Girls' are also well known in the UK aviation world notably for the annual ...

Re: Pooleys Day '13 - Compton Abbas 30th June

HI Neil

One of the Stearman was new to me, one I had seen there before.

The majority of landing shots (inc. the two robbo shots) were taken at a location i'd not tries before and was actually 'off' airport, will definately go there again though!!

Pooleys Day '13 - Compton Abbas 30th June

The weather played ball this year (this event was post-poned until a date in October last year) and by mid-morning Compton Abbas Airfield in Dorset was buzzing with the sound of aeroplanes! Apparently it was the airfields busiest day for 25 years as lots of pilots took advantage of the good weather,...

Re: Thomson Dreamliner visits Bournemouth!

Not to my knowledge aidsmith but if you let me know when you're visiting again I can arrange to have some video taken for you!! I was amazed at just how quiet the 787 is, I was stood directly behind it when it departed and barely knew it was there other than a slight buffeting from the engine thrust...
