Re: SPOTM December 2019 - winter wonderland, snow and ice -voting poll

the voting has closed in this competition and these are the results: This month's winner was LondonEye (Pete) with AS350B HB-XSU at Zermatt, Switzerland in 2009 and we had joint runners-up (or is that runner-ups?) Cessna954 (Neil) with a Ryanair B737-800 landing at an extremely cold and snow covered...

Heathrow 16-01-2020

I spent a cold and sometimes damp and sometimes persistently raining day at Heathrow last Thursday, here are some of my efforts mainly from the football ground but I did walk round to Myrtle Avenue for an hour or so for a change of scenery.... https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49415187062_7d7d72a7...

It normally visits weekly Wallie and sometimes twice. Occasionally they use one of the KLM 747-Fs instead but this is the regular one

Stansted 19-01-2020

I spent a few hours at Stansted today where some nice visitors were present for a UK / African trade conference. Lots of enthusiasts from far and wide about to log and/or photograph the exotic subjects and I bumped into a few familiar faces, here's a selection starting with the African contingent th...

Re: Heathrow night time landings, 27L 16-01-2020

I found the Dash 8 shot interesting. The prop blur and lighting look good, just a pity any zooming in doesn’t really work. Pity also that there are not more opportunities to experiment with turboprops in the dark. I think London City still have a few and there probably plenty of background light to...

Re: Heathrow night time landings, 27L 16-01-2020

thanks Nick, I've hardly ever dabbled in NR techniques so that's another steep learning curve for me to investigate. This was all a bit of an experiment and I really didn't know what to expect from the results. I actually used a set speed of 1/100th to try to eliminate as much movement as I could as...

Heathrow night time landings, 27L 16-01-2020

I was at Heathrow all day yesterday until around 7pm as I had offered (who's surprised?) to collect my neighbour off SQ318 after her flight back from Oz. When it got dark I played around experimenting with night shots under the 277L approach on Hatton Road, hadn't tried it before so the results were...

Re: Heathrow likely runway in use tomorrow (16-01-2020)

thanks for the help guys

In the end it was 27s all day. In fact they were landing on 27L right through until 7pm rather than switching to 27R at the usual 3pm. don't know the reason but it made things easier for me. I'm guessing it was an issue with the ILS gear on 27R ut that IS only a guess.

many thanks Nick, that helps no end. Hopefully I can keep a step ahead of any changes.
I think I can understand the maths of the components- I can vaguely remember my trigonometry and cosines etc!

Re: Heathrow likely runway in use tomorrow (16-01-2020)

I can usually work it out with a good degree of certainty but it look so marginal I can't be sure. My best guess is 09s from around 10am until 3pm but I'm nowhere near certain. As a 'suits all options' I will probably end up at the football club so I have my car there and if they are on 09s I can ge...

Heathrow likely runway in use tomorrow (16-01-2020)

a bit of an odd question for those who understand the runway alternations system and how wind affects it please..... I'm going to Heathrow tomorrow for the day as I'm picking up my neighbour off SIA318 around 7pm. The runway alternation schedule says landing 27L until 3pm assuming wind is suitable. ...
