Forum upgrade imminent

Post by andygolfer » Tue May 22, 2018 7:26 pm

I've said imminent but it may be a week or so but better to tell you now rather than once it's happened, so as the title said a forum upgrade will take place some time very soon or a bit later depending upon Adam's workload.
Those of you who also frequent our sister forum Fighter Control will be aware that the upgrade was recently carried out, reasonably smoothly but a few glitches which were soon ironed out so hopefully the CA upgrade will run like clockwork.
The look has changed a bit, here's a link to the FC homepage: http://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/ and the main differences are the loss of the tabs for 'View unanswered posts • View unread posts • View new posts • View active topics • Mark forums read' which used to run along the top of the board and the 'search' and 'members' tabs on the right. These are not now immediately apparent but fear not for I'm about to tell you how to find them.......... ;)

they are all available by clicking on the 'Quick Links' tab at the toppish left as per this screen shot AND all in one place together now, here's a screenshot that I've done with the tab highlighted for you....
ImageFC new format quick links by Andrew Goldsmith, on Flickr - I notice somebody has already found it on my flickr page and liked it so I must have done something useful!

hope that will help with the transition as that's the main difference from a navigation point of view. When it all happens please post questions here and I'm sure Adam will answer them best he can if Mike or I don't know ourselves.

thanks for reading this and fingers crossed it all goes smoothly

The upgrade planning has been going on in the background for a while and we are now close to completing the 'invisible' stage.

If all goes to plan the upgrade MIGHT happen tomorrow evening subject to some pre-work being completed but it will also depend on other workload. When it happens it ill be obvious from the new appearance.

thanks for reading this

Andy - will it be the same person(s) who upgraded FC? If so presumably this forum will benefit from the issues arising and since resolved there and thus making things smoother if not easier for the transition.

Yes and that's why it's taken such a long time.

There were unforeseen issues there which would have duplicated on here but they are nearly all resolved now and it is working correctly. There are a few minor bits to do with the mobile appearance still to be resolved but they are (to quote myself) just 'minor' so we are confident it will work.

As admins we are having a few issues with the current build and are keen to see them resolved with the new upgrade. One obvious one for us is that potential new members don't seem to be able to sign up, we've had none for over a week and there are usually one or two genuine ones (plus a spammer or three) every day. One person contacted me via FC which highlighted the problem and we were able to eventually get him registered but there are probably a few who have tried and given up without contacting us so we are keen to get it all done so we don't lose potential members.

fingers crossed as he's been working hard on it for some time now,

I'm a daily user of the Fighter Control forum and very much like the new forum format so well done to all involved in that , particularly Zymurgy661 who appears to be the IT guru .
The 'Quick links' link is very user friendly and makes forum navigation very easy .

I'm sure the Civilian Aviation forum upgrade will be seamless ? Probably !
