BT paying £885 million over 3 seasons (96 matches in all) and Sky £3.579 BILLION for 480 matches over 3 seasons!
That's £7.5 million per match for Sky and £9.2 million per match for BT
football has gone mad! Lost all touch with reality.

Re: the cost of football
I agree Andy. Just look at this:
https://inews.co.uk/sport/football/manc ... countries/
Spending on a sport at this level is just wrong.

Re: the cost of football
I'm sure I read something the other day about BT wanting to shed all of the football due to over spending, and ultimately losing money...and then I see them spending that much on it...

Re: the cost of football
You read they would not spend over the odds to gain matches. There were the new bidders in this time, and BT said the would let the rights go if they went above a spending limit.talldan76 wrote:I'm sure I read something the other day about BT wanting to shed all of the football due to over spending, and ultimately losing money...and then I see them spending that much on it...

Just watch Sky increase its fees for all services to pay for the amount it spent out to gain these matches.
My belief is there should be a cap on paying players wages.

Re: the cost of football
A cap would help in some ways. At the moment the clubs know that they can just (and need to) get more and more money from the TV rights and keep spending it on wages and thus it flows on to players and agent. With a cap on wages they wouldn't be as concerned about the cost of wages to attract the best players as they would know there's a limit and thus the TV companies would also know that the clubs could (if they needed to) settle for a bit less and that would feed through to customers.
Of course the clubs and agents would find ways round it in time so it would only temporarily lessen the need for higher TV deals. If not they would probably head off to another top European league which didn't have caps unless UEFA or FIFA made it Europe/World wide respectively and they wouldn't wish to kill the goose providing them with a series of golden eggs.
bit of a hard one to find a way round really. I really do think it has spoilt football though.
