Log & Info Mumbai 14/06/12

Post by burnsy133 » Sat Jun 23, 2012 10:11 am

Flew Delhi - Mumbai on board JetLite, short flight, great service. I
had looked around for weeks and weeks to try and get some information
regarding spotting at Mumbai, all i could gleam was that the Orchard
hotel used to give views but after building work people were now
unsure, you could supposedly spot from the pool top roof but this was
said to be only open at night, I decided that as i was there on
business i would book my last two nights at the Orchard and take my
chances.

After arriving In Mumbai my office there took me on a 35 minute dirve
to my hotel, the newly built Holiday Inn, Bombay airport, I was quiet
sceptical about the name as it took 35 minutes by car (albeit the
traffic was pants). Afetr arriving and checking in i proceeded to my
room on the exec floor and was given room 709, bags dropped i headed
to the window to see if i could see any traffic in the distance,
curtains open and you could have knocked me over with a feather, just
to the left about 5-600 yards away sat two 737's, I quickly worked out
that they were in the queue for take off on Runway 27 !!!, great big
huge windows with a workstation that looked outwards, care was again
taken and no spotting equipment was left on view either when i was out
of the room or when staff were in the room, hotel is very western,
western food, western beer and western TV Channels, rooms709/707/705/703would all give same views, room 701 or 702 would let
you see stuff on finals and rooms704/706/708/710etc would let you
see stuff on approach but not taking off, when they change to runway
14 which they did over the next couple of days you could see them on
approach from my room and also departing. From the roof top pool you
would easily be able to read off any landers, anything taking off and
most of the 40-50 biz jets, I didnt have a telescope with me and
personally i dont think i would have chanced using it anyhow.
