Log & Info Chennai 10/06/12

Post by burnsy133 » Sat Jun 23, 2012 9:25 am

Morning all,

A business trip to India resulted in the following log, the log was
taken between 12 noon and 2200 hrs on the 10/06/12, I was staying at
the Raddison Blu hotel which is situated right on the end of Runway 25
and luck would have it they were landing this way, the next day they
were using 07 as i checked in for my next flight and i noted that all
departures could be seen from the hotel.

I booked a room with an airport view which is actually a choice you
can select on the booking web site, this cost £175 per night but i
suspect that this was down to the fact that I had only booked on the
Thursday before travel. On arrival I was given room 213 which had a
fantastic view of the pool but no aircraft, mindful of the fact i did
not want to draw attention to myself I asked why i had not been given
the room i had booked and they explained that this was the newest room
in the hotel, recently refurbished and that as I was a VIP they had
upgraded me free of charge, I explained that i work in the industry
and like to see the aviation scene in the country I am working in and
that an airport view room was better for me and my work and they
happily moved me.

The suite was fantastic, massage chair and great big bay windows, the
chair was situated at the window so you could spot whilst getting a
state of the art massage, at all times during servicing of the room or
visits by room service everything was kept out of sight, no chances
were taken and i was careful not to stand at the window with telescope
etc etc, i had made the decision before travel that if i couldnt get
it with my compact 10x40's then it would unfortunatley have to go
begging, it seems that bins are accepted but i suspect that standing
at the window with a Optylyth 40 x 80 big green telesope might get the
locals asking questions. The staff were wonderful and very chatty,
food in the hotel was superb with a english breakfast available,
afternoon buffet from 12-1500 hrs and evening buffet from 1900 hrs
with western food available if thats your thing, the television had
loads of English speaking channels etc etc.

Most landing aircraft could be read off with MK1 eyeball but you only
get a 5 second view of the aircraft, departing aircraft mainly used
the early line up point which could not be seen for trees, only the
heavy stuff (some 73's and Airbus included) came to the end of the
runway and could be seen....on with the Log.
