ULAC at Flyers' Bar, Pefkos, Rhodes

Post by Wiltshire_Victor » Sat Sep 24, 2016 12:26 pm

Just returned from 11 days in Pefkos, Rhodes where we would see this ULAC flying most days from the grit strip adjacent to Flyers' Bar in the resort. There's no reg anywhere on the frame that I could find and attempts to ID it in the bar with my rather limited Greek fell on deaf ears. Can anyone help with an ID please?

Did you ask to look inside the cockpit? There should be a small metal (or plastic) plaque with the manufacturer's serial number and aircraft type in there somewhere that's usually easily seen, unless it's a home-build - I'm not sure if they have them !

Do you have any other shots of it?

It looks nice and hot there, did you have a good holiday? :)

Hi Mike

Yes, thank you, it was steaming hot for the entire 11 days. When I called in at the bar, the owner wasn't around and the ULAC was at the end of the grit strip ready for its next sortie. I didn't want to risk upsetting anyone by walking along the strip without permission but in any case, whenever it was parked up, it always had a cover over the canopy to keep the sun out.

We last visited in 2011 and back then his old yellow scheme ULAC ( which it appeared had crashed or had a heavy landing) was displayed on the roof of his bar! Not much of a testament to his piloting skills really but I have ID'd that one as HE-U180

What's a "ULAC" - is it "Unidentified Light AirCraft"?

Sorry, ultra light air craft. Not much on ID-ing ultra lights but think it might be a Zenair CH701. I'm sure someone here will know one way or the other. If it is a 701, then according to LAAS Greek civil register, there are just five on the list. The registered owner is a Mr Nikos Psaros
