Turweston EGBT airfield guide

Address: Turweston Aerodrome. Biddlesden Road, Westbury, Brackley NN13 5YD

Turweston airfield is located approximately 2 miles east of Brackley between the A43 and A422. It is approximately 8 miles from junction 10 on the M40 and 10 miles from junction 11. It is signposted from the A422 at Westbury and from the A43 at Whitfield.
SatNav OX7 4NS should take you to the flying club entrance

The nearest bus service is to Turweston village (131 & 132) but from there the shortest walk is about 1 ¼ miles via public footpaths (see the OS map)

Once at the airfield follow the southern perimeter track round to the hangars and the control tower and club house is found by walking between the Mark Allen and Heli-charter/Akki hangars, I parked in one of the unlabelled spaces along there when I visited.

The airfield has a tarmac main runway 09/27, 1000 meters long with a parallel grass strip on the south side

Spotting / photography
The first stop when visiting is the control tower / clubhouse where you should ask for permission to look round, they are very friendly and I was allowed access onto the aircraft areas during my visit and was told I could go into the open club hangars and most importantly remember the golden rule –‘ don’t touch anything’.
The Chiltern Classic hangar was also open and a request to walk in to take a couple of photos was granted. The Heli-charter hangar was open when I drove in but closed by the time I walked round so I didn’t find out how they re-act to requests. I am told that Akki do not normally grant access.
I was asked to call back at the club house before leaving so that they knew I was no longer on site, and of course I took the time to say ‘thank you’. By doing this you will help maintain access for future visiting enthusiasts
There were 40 or so aircraft present during my visit plus any which were in the close hangars (Mick Allen & Akki). The busiest time at Turweston is in July on the weekend of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone about 4 miles away, there are intensive helicopter shuttles to the race circuit and fixed wing movements either to connect with the helicopters or the road shuttles. There is now a very new & shiny control tower incorporating a cafe & viewing area. The entrance is behind the Classic hangar where there is a nice new car park too.
Still friendly and best to visit during Silverstone week or when there is a fly-in happening. Last Saturday I logged 123 frames (based + VAC Fly-in) but had to leave by 13:00 so missed many others coming in later.

Just be polite, ask for entry, show interest and don't touch anything unless you have permission.
