With a complete washout of its Easter Fly-In the weather looked far more promising for the annual August Bank Holiday weekend event at Henstridge. Organised by the chaps and ladies that used to run the Great Vintage Flying Weekend (GVFWE) the August fly-in is in its 19th year. These events are run and attended by an ever-ageing group of enthusiasts, one of the reasons GFVWE ceased, and I do worry that my children won't have the same opportunities to attend such grass roots events.
The usual relaxed and fun atmosphere at Henstridge with monies raised going to the based Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance Trust. Despite the bright and sunny day unfortunately the 10 knot crosswind put many flying visitors off attending, with 100+ pre-booked, but circa 55 visitors did attend (most not being pre-booked) plus a good number of interesting residents.
G-BWMK (T8191) is the former Royal Navy Historic Flight Tiger Moth and I last photographed it stored in a hangar at HMS Daedalus in November 1994. Now restored by Henstridge resident Kevin Crumplin and his 6th Tiger Moth restoration with three remaining at Henstridge and two exported abroad (Germany and Czech Republic).
