Henstridge Vintage Fly-In - 29.08.15
Henstridge Vintage Fly-In - 29.08.15
The annual Vintage Wings and Wheels gathering was held at Henstridge Airfield in Dorset today. The weather was kinder than in recent years and a decent turn out was achieved, albeit not the expected 100+ vintage types. With the Red Arrows & BBMF performing fly-throughs whilst en-route between display bookings the general public turned out in significant numbers and hopefully boosting the monies raised for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. A small selection of photos from a very pleasant day.
Piper J3C Cub
A couple of delightful Luscombe Silvaires
Apparently this is a STW2 Hot Two Wot
Aeronca Chief
One of three Rallyes in attendance
Henstridge has three resident Tiger Moths all restored to immaculate and accurate mid WW2 condition with blind flying hoods, navigation lights for night flying training of bomber crews and no anti spin strakes - G-ADWJ seen here departing on a pleasure flight
Continuing the RAF training theme - Chipmunk G-ARMC
and Bull Dog G-SIJW with Liverpool UAS markings
I had seen this Travel Air 4000 overfly my home back in May so it was nice to catch up with it.
Pitts S1S G-BRRP
This Auster AOP9 (G-BKVK) was looking tired and worn, which was great as that's the way it would have looked in service
Steen Skybolt G-ENGO
The 10 Reds making their fly-through
And all in aid of the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance
and a small flying display, literally......
thanks for looking

Great shots indeed. Excellent use of a good spot close to the runway - all nice and sharp with good prop blur. I agree on the Luscombe's. The Pitts and Chipmunk look fantastic too, as does the Tiger Moth.

Some lovely shots ,G-ARMC , the Chippy was also for several years on the strength of The College of Air Training at Hamble . Producing lots of the previous generation of BOAC , BEA , and BA pilots .

Link should give Youtube video of the film Airline Pilot . 10:20 onwards shows the then Deputy CFI Joe Douglas , hamming it up for the camera and bending MC's main spar whilst teaching ex Cadet Stephen Radcliffe to fly . By then Stephen was a Second Officer on VC 10s . Sadly to lose his life in a car crash at an early age .

Lovely shots. Those Silvaire's are nice. I haven't seen one for a while. I like that Travel Air too and it's always good to see a Chippie.
