I spent 2 hours at Stow Maries, Essex for the second day of their spring fly-in, bright sunshine and largest crowd I've ever seen there and the car park full. Trouble was i hadn't been there in sunshine before and found that i was taking everything into sun so not my best set ever, had been able to stay beyond 13.30 I might have been okay but there we are, still a nice event all the same. Here are a selection of my photos, there are loads more in my flickr album:https://www.flickr.com/photos/125470545 ... 2622521291

Re: Stow Maries, Essex fly-in 10-5-2015
Blimey a busy day, some very good image one or two could do with a little tidying up-
No 6 could do with being levelled and then cropped to try and centre the aircraft
No 8 probably needs to go in the bin the aircraft is blurry and that gentleman is out of focus
No 10 a little bit of panning practice as per 8 in the bin
No 15 as above
The last one apologies just bin it
Some of the others are a little blurry due to the low shutter speed but acceptable as they are nicely portraying the impression of movement.
Overall a very well shot set hope you don't mind my comments
Paul

Re: Stow Maries, Essex fly-in 10-5-2015
thanks Paul, at last some comments to give me something to think about and work on!
I've had a look and mitigate as follows;
no.6 errm? I think I posted the wrong one but at least the one I put up shows how wrong it is possible to get a photo, should have been this one
2432 G-ECKB Escapade by Andrew Goldsmith, on Flickr
no.8 - he just got in the way as I was panning so I thought I would have some fun with a caption, but as a record of an airshow it is certainly bin-worthy. Maybe we should do a fun SPOTM sometime for photos with captions or for moments when we got it wrong! - I have plenty of those.
10 - I can offer no defence whatsoever, I think I did something wrong when I uploaded it, maybe for got to save the edit but there again I doubt I would totally have corrected the blur. odd that the strut is in focus and you can see the framework. Didn't crop it at all right though Was rushing a bit I think as you say, bin-worthy
15 - I thought the cropping/panning was okay on that one but looking again maybe it needs to be moved to the right a bit, I've re-done it by using the grid function on Canon DPP and the fuselage was way off centre originally, the original was soft and I have tried to sharpen it up but can't give it much. If it weren't for the fact that Mike likes Pups I'd bin it - here's the revised one centred up and sharpened as much as i dare without getting jagged edges appearing:
2590 G-AXNS B.Pup, 2 by Andrew Goldsmith, on Flickr
the last one - yes crap but that was only there to show that duxford isn't the only place with a naughty field (having a bit of fun!), I saw the people there and quickly snapped them but they were a long way off and it's heavily cropped.
As you said some are blurry because I tried really slow shutter speeds to get prop blur and blurred background but it backfired on me by trying to be too clever, I did several at 1/160th and got away with it far fewer times than I failed - loads in the bin I probably should have stuck to 1/200th or higher as they were generally sharper AND I need to practice panning a bit, it's quite an art at low speeds.
one more lesson that I've learnt several times - sometimes there's an image you try hard to capture but you don't get it right, sadly all the processing in the world won't turn it into a good shot, note to self - bin it!
Cheers Paul - thanks for some great feedback, you learn and improve far more when you get it wrong.
Andy
