W881 or W889 for Bearcat?

Postby leonard320 » Mon Jan 04, 2010 11:08 am

Hi all

I recently got a Uniden UBC3500XLT scanner and compared to my SAB2006 its excellent. I am now looking for a new aerial to the standard rubber one as, even though I can pick up a vast ammount, I am looking to boost the signal and possibly pick up the controllers on the local apprach stations (Cranfield, Luton and Essex).

Can anyone point me in the right direction out of the W881 or W889. Main reason why is i've heard good things about both, however money means I can only get one.

Thanks
Ben Leonard

Hi mate........get yourself over onto the Fighter control under the scanner/radio section like this.
There is a sticky thread on there on how to build your own antenna....it is so simple you will wonder why people spend money on antennas at all.
There is a simple calculation there to help you cut the cables to the required length you will need for your chosen use.
I have built one cut (or tuned) for mil uhf usage and it sits in my loft. I used satalite coax as it was just a bit of an experiment on a rainy day and I was absolutely gobsmacked at how good it is!!! If I had used the correct cable it may well be even better.
Give it a go!

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

I had a look on Fighter control as suggested however couldnt find the thread you mentioned. Is it possible to post a link or give me a heads up where to find it.

Thanks
