re-hash of Airfields and airports section sub forums.

Post by andygolfer » Mon Oct 15, 2018 10:04 pm

The admin / moderating team have decided to reduce the number of area sub forums in the Airfields and airports section to tidy the forum index page a bit and as part of this we have merged the 'South' section with the 'south-West' and all posts and sub forums are now in a the section titled South and South-West.

I will be tackling other sections over the next few days and the plan is to merge the following:
'Midlands' and 'East Anglia' into one section titled 'Midlands and East Anglia'
'North West' and 'North East' into 'North'

I will also re-title 'London and home counties' as 'London area' and move some of the sub forums to the most appropriate locations. That is probably the most awkward one as what should we deem as 'London area'? I could suggest within the M.25 but that would put Gatwick, Stansted and Luton in other sections so that wouldn't work! I will at least keep all the main London airports within London but your thoughts on where other airfields should go would be most appreciated. not surprisingly I shall leave that section until last

all existing sub forums for specific airfields will remain (unless you feel that any could be omitted - post here if you wish to comment on that) but some may not follow their current 'parent' forum.

also if you would like any new ones added please post a suggestion here.

all comments welcome

Thanks for your hard work Andy, I think the improvements work well. With regard to the London area airfields, I think the old title of "London and Home Counties" worked well. If you're looking for an alternative, you could just call it "South East", to match with the existing "South and South West". It could then just include everything in well, London and the Home Counties! It's always going to be a matter of opinion where the borders between these section are exactly (especially as county boundaries do change over time), so I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure the readers will check adjacent sub-forums if they're looking for information on an airfield that could potentially be in both (e.g. Lasham or Audley End).

thanks for the feedback Nick, I did like the other title but in particular with Buckinghamshire classed as a 'home county' I felt that parts of it were too far away from the capital. Kent was also a bit of an odd one as I felt that was better in South and south West.

i'll give it some thought and maybe I'll switch it back tomorrow.

i've also done a bit of a re-hash and extension to the Air Events section so that the various elements are separated.
