With nothing too inspiring airliner & biz wise showing for Bristol and Kemble, I didn't bother visiting either (the Fastjet Zimbabwe A319 will probably be around for a month or two at the latter) and headed straight to Cardiff with the following logged between 1145-1710

Hi Martin,

You, like me, left too early. Having been there since 3am reserving my space and anticipating "the busiest ever day at Cardiff airport" as it was billed by both the media and the airport itself, I was disappointed for prolonged periods of the morning. I've a photo of the entire ramp where the only thing in is the based Eastern that was non-ops for the weekend.
Given that we were turning stuff away to Birmingham, Bristol and even East bloody Midlands, this was enough to irritate me greatly. The day did pick up after noon with some average biz, but we waited for the last IB A340 before leaving for home.

I had a far better time going into town to take photos and sample the incredible atmosphere. Whilst there I had a text about a Gabon government gulfstream which was our prize star movement for the day, and it landed at 7pm. Ridiculously close to kick off! So I high-tailed it back to the airport to catch the three star aircraft all parked - the Italian AF & Spanish AF falcons and the aforementioned Gabonaise. Brilliant, but frankly too little too late, and, having been around for the 1999 Rugby World Cup final amongst many other big events down here I can tell you there was a hell of a lot of ramp space going begging.

No excuses as to why the airport couldn't have taken all the movements that went to BHX/EMA and a significant portion of the Bristol movements too. Overall, for one of the biggest sporting events in the world, extremely disappointing effort from CWL rescued by a handful of star movements.

Suffice to say plenty of pictures were taken so it'll take a while to get them all up but this'll be the first place I come to with them!

I was surprised how little was parked over the terminal side when I left with most stuff positioning out to position back in after the game.

Given the amount of space available, I did wonder why so many biz/charters were going to BHX, GLO, OXF & even Luton (a Gazpromavia B737, RA-73004 went to Luton)

Still, I made two biz out of that lot and 8 airliners, it would have been nice to have a few more Alitalia heavies though.

:D

Half decent log lads, but not a lot to whet the appetite, as mentioned- pity the biz etc went all over the place. Glad I did not bother.
