Newcastle spotting locations
Has anyone ever used the bridleway under the 07 approach for a photography location?
Could you post any pics taken from there?
Thanks

Good for approach shots but big lens & a cold day needed for over the runway pics ( distance & heat haze .. even in Newcastle !! )

I love the REDS shot. Did you take it last year? I seem to remember seeing it before.
Is it easy to walk to that spot?

Yep the Reds shot was taken last year ... it was them departing for their display at the Sunderland airshow.pilot_ngb wrote:I love the REDS shot. Did you take it last year? I seem to remember seeing it before.

It is easy to walk there ...just walk out of the airport to the roundabout at the airport entrance ... the footpath begins to the left of the exit at the opposite side of the roundabout from the airport entrance ..ie the one that is rough ground with taxis parked in it (& often a burger van).
Cheers

Hey Guys,
Bat 21,
Brilliant pictures, what lenses did you use for these pictures? Particularly loved the one of the Red Arrows, awesome picture.

Hi Paul
Just to add to Bat21's posts.
I photograph in that cul-de-sac area at the top of the bridleway when 07 is in use, with no more that a 200mm lens for this shot.

However, Bat21's images looking along runway 07 will require a stronger lens, say 400mm.
If runway 25 in use, you cannot really do better than at the top of the Hazelrigg Road (Coach Lane). The Google Earth image shows where I go for most of my 25 appraoch shots.
The red dot is the location, with plenty of parking available in the nature reserve just around the corner on coach Lane.

A couple of images to show you whats available. I use no more than a 200mm lens up there, BUT a greater zoom will help you more for light aircraft, although having said that, the GA shown below was taken at 200mm.

Next image is taken on the opposite side of the 25 approach, towards Dinnington Village, your images will be backlit through the day, but late summer evenings when the setting sun moves to the north of the runway can give you good results, although angles are not the best.

Hope this helps.
Kind regards.
