Newcastle Airport - 75th Anniversary - 26th July 2010

Post by Newcastle_paul » Tue Jul 20, 2010 8:37 pm

This has appeared on the Newcastle Airport this coming Monday. Sadly I've got to work in Durham

You are invited to celebrate Newcastle International Airport’s
75th Anniversary on Monday 26th July 2010
Newcastle Airport and business partners have created a very special itinerary for the anniversary day. The public can watch all of the activity from a dedicated viewing area which will be open from 10am at Samson Aviation. We recommend viewing from 10.30am - 1.30pm to ensure the main highlights of the day are not missed! These include:
10.30am British Airways Hot Air Balloon tethered on the grass area adjacent the freight village
10.35am Arrival of a KLM B737 donning the original colour scheme from the 1960’s
11.10am Arrival of British Airways 747
12.00pm Arrival of a De Havilland Dragon Rapide to commemorate the exact time the airfield opened in 1935
12.05pm Arrival of an Emirates B777
12.15pm BA 747 departs
1.05pm KLM B737 departs
1.35pm Emirates B777 departs
2.00pm Pleasure flights on the Dragon Rapide commence with invited guests
Public car parking is provided from 8.00am and the airfield will return to normal operations from 4.00pm.
A map detailing directions to Samson Aviation and the location of the viewing area and parking is below and available to download from the Newcastle International website

No it's free. It's actually part of a public road. In the past the police have moved people due to security etc. I heard today that the viewing area is open all weekend as per the pdf file so that people can view aircraft taking part in the airshow!

I was up there today and saw no evidence that the viewing area was open. There are very big blue fences around what I presume from the map is the car parking.
