Have your say about CA

Post by StuBie » Fri Oct 21, 2011 7:22 pm

Evening all,

Here on the CA team we are always looking at new and different ways to make the forums a good place to view and share information. With this in mind we are looking to you,the CA member, to give us some feedback on the forums.

Maybe there is something you want to see on the forum, or perhaps airfields you feel should be covered. Now is the chance to make your voice heard, after all it is your forum!

Let us know what your thinking.

Stu

Enjoy the site as is, not so much posted on here as FC, but then there are less members on here and probably less civvie enthusiasts in general but still find it interesting and useful. Sorry I could not be more use.

Cheers for your input jackdaw :thumb:

Don't feel bad about not leaving much feedback, the fact that you've taken the time to comment is much appreciated.

Good topic

My opinion is that I would love to see more logs posted from Civie airfield visits. I am predominantly a 'spotter'. I collect registrations but I'm not sure if this forum is more photo orientated.?

Last month I toured north lincs and yorkshire visiting 20+ airfields. I have full logs and lots of pics to share and more importantly info on what access was given. I have resisted posting as I'm not sure if this kind of info is of value to the forum.

It would be cool to see what others have discovered on their travels but to repeat, I am not sure what this forum is about. If there are other like minded folks we could get a good picture of good airfields to visit and their residents making spotting trips more productive.

Hi
You asked for feed back.
Perhaps less military orientated.
Of 25 items from AeroResource 6 were civil , some bit of both but MOST BY FAR MILITARY, WHY on a CIVILIAN AVIATION forum ?
Does Fighter Control suffer a similar number of civil articles ?
The owners/operators are military orientated and it shows. example being the post today by Goose , in Military bases 'OTT The Wave' I have no idea where 'the wave' is nor do I care, perhaps the base's correct name ! Better still a town name !
On a different tack, perhaps a request to people to date & locate their posts. ' Today at Wherever really isn't informative 9 months or more later ! Leaving off the airfield name doesn't help those who don't know who logs what from which airfield/locale.
H.T.H.

Apologies Terry  The Wave is the viewing area for Waddington and therefore located in the Waddington section. Apologies again if this is unclear, I'll take a look at it for you.

The OTT'ers were seen OTT The Wave, hence why they were posted there. I'll take your comment on board in future and perhaps use Lincoln as a location. For the sake of the 3 miles or so the accuracy won't be an issue. :)

As to the AeroResource articles, again you have a point. AeroResource is the over-arching website which parents both CA and FC. We will endeavour to supply more Civilian Aviation content. :)

Anyone wish to submit an article? A request was made ages ago, here - http://www.civilianaviation.co.uk/forum ... 1779#p7056" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Mark,

If you have logs and photos from visits then we would be happy for you to share them with the other members of the board. We do try and provide for the needs of everyone on the forum from photographers, airband users and spotters. There is no specific area in which we aim to specialise in, it just depends on what the users choose to post. It does seem from my personal point of view that the Civie side of the hobby does attract more spotters, but we are open to everything.

As for airfield information, we could work on improving the airfields section to provide a better guidance for fellow photographers and spotters. If you want i'd be more than happy to discuss this further through PM?

In reply to Mark's post :- we would love to see your logs but you must appreciate that very few members will ever give any feed-back if those logs are accurate.

I posted a log from my 1st visit to Staverton in 1965.......... http://www.civilianaviation.co.uk/forum ... 108&t=6604" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No-one has ever commented on it, yet it has had 108 views ! We've had loads of logs posted on CA but some don't even include the types - they've just been a load of registration numbers ! At least these guys have taken the time to post a log of what they've seen which is far better than not posting anything at all. :thumb: The more logs, the better.

Terry, both CA and FC are under the "umbrella" of Aeroresource, every article that is published will automatically appear on both sites - FC has about 4 times as many members as CA (so far !) - so most articles will be military related, I love both military and civil but there's a couple of articles that I've never bothered reading - I just look at the title and decide whether to read it or not.

Goose's posts this morning were in the RAF Waddington section and he just happened to see the over-flights from the WAVE - which is the "Waddington Aircraft Viewing Area" - it's a large car-park at the end of the runway with a fantastic cafe and spotter's-shop run by John Robinson.

I hope that helps chaps and thank you all so much for the feed-back. :D

Hi Guys
Mike I have posted many an epic and am guilty as a poster of a list of reg's with no type(s) attached.
I am afraid its just too tiresome logging everything, then looking it up to add the type, then typing it all out to post ! Yes its fine when there are 20 or 30 aircraft , but I tend not to spot in 'little bites'...... :-).
I did an epic to Tannkosh ( logged 1500 )then to Hahnweide ( logged about 250), on the way I popped into Luxembourg then stopped in at the museum at Hermeskiel (logged just short of 100) tried the campsite at the back of Speyer:-) logged 2 :-), between the Sunday Tannkosh finished and the Friday Hahnweide started spent my days at Stuttgart logged 200 +, so posting types e.t.c. with pics of course is gonna consume just too many hours. I made 900 +
Two weekends later we went to Le Bourget for the 'open house at Dugny' which wasn't !, we stayed on CDG, then visited Le Bourget, & Musee de l'air Saturday, on Sunday it was La Ferte Alais, and Tussous logged 500 ish over the weekend. Made 300 so I have trouble just keeping my logs up to date ! ! My database is computerised, but I am not !
Have fun

Hi mate, I just love reading about the trips you do and looking at all the photos - I got a large spanner chucked at me at Toussous once - it missed luckily.

Some interesting comments posted. I must admit I generally log onto Fighter Control more often but then I really like looking at the excellent pics posted here, especially the airliners and bizjets.
I don't possess a radio as I don't understand much of it. I like logging on to Flight24 as I can see a lot of contrails from where I live. Personal circumstances mean that I can't get out very often these days so this forum is very useful to see what's about. Regards to all Frank :D
