An-124 RA-82044 / G-XLEA damaged

Post by Mike » Fri Jan 22, 2016 5:15 pm

The above is inbound from Hannover to collect an A380 engine from BA to take it to Miami. A BA A380 was towed/or taxied into an air jetty at Miami and has a severe dent on the outboard port engine cowling, it seems like they're replacing the entire engine.

Loads of info regarding the incident can be found here :- http://www.pprune.org/rumours-news/5734 ... ridge.html

That will leave a bit of a shortage. for BA on their A380 routes, fortunately G-XLEK flew from Hamburg to Toulouse today for final delivery preparations, maybe they will try to accelerate it.

There's some debate as to how extensive the damage is on the fora, hopefully not a lot. I flew on the aircraft involved (G-XLEA) in October 2014 so sad to see it getting a knock

RA-82044 just passing to the north of Bath eastbound at FL175, I have no idea why they needed one of these !

Edit :- did they take a replacement engine too just to be on the safe side maybe?
