HI
Under the great police plan to form a "National Police Air Service", the Police will loose their "ASU" (Air Support Units"), and become part of the "NPAS" (National Police Air Service).
This means that the police helicopter will nolonger be owned and funded locally, by their local police force. The scheme offically came into force in April 2012, however some parts of the country had already switched over to "NPAS".
In the West Country, the Police helicopter will become under the control of South-West National Police Air Support Unit (who will also control the Dorset Police helicopter, at its new location), and its assest (DEvon & Cornwall) will move to Exeter Airport. Its area of operation will be greater than before, and if required to support other NPAS units, then it could temporary relocated elsewhere.
Indeed Dorset Police ASU will move to EGHH (Bournemouth Airport), and the "South East Air Support Unit will move to Redhill, among other changes national that will see a reduction of eight airframes national.
A few problems with the scheme exists, one of which appears to be Alex Samon (in Scotland), who does not want Scotland to become part of a UK National Police Air Support Unit.
Still after the date for the move to Exeter ?????
