Heathrow 27L departures
Heathrow 27L departures
I haven't been to Stanwell Moor since December 2015 and found today that lots of the vegetation has grown and now obscures some of the views. So I had a walk around and ended up in the old cattle field - long since abandoned. ATC were turning the SE bound heavies alot sooner than on previous visits which was great from a photography perspective but the mid sized aircraft were going further out and less photographable.
Anyway, I'll post lots more at the weekend but in the meantime, a taster of a banker.

Here is a map of the location. There's a field between the two footpaths (B & C) which used to be used for grazing of cattle up until the foot & mouth outbreak. Since then it's been left to return to nature and hawthornes are starting to get quite high and obscure panning. So, it's a case of finding a location where you have a decent view of aircraft climbing away (X) and then banking (Y). It's a secluded location, two birders came past and we had a nice chat, but otherwise a good oportunity for getting some piece and quiet (I have 4 kids still living at home!!!)

Re: Heathrow 27L departures
superb Neil, can't wait to see the others!
Which is the 'old cattle field' please Neil. I went to Stanwell moor last September, parked in Hithermoor Rd and followed the footpath along the west (M25) side of the King George reservoir and it was well overgrown so I eventually found an old gate into a field and went through that and followed a footpath named as Colne Valley way on the O.S. map and stood in the middle of the field there but htere were still some high willows which blocked some of the view - is that the 'old cattle field' you refer to or is it further south towards Staines moor pls?

Re: Heathrow 27L departures
thanks for the map Neil, that is roughly where I went last September but must have been slightly different as I didn't get those banking towards you shots. did you go through the hedge to point Y?
The Vietnam 787 and the Qantas and SIA A380s are absolutely superb - well done and thanks for sharing them

Re: Heathrow 27L departures
Great shots, lovely and sharp. The Vietnam 787 is utterly fabulous. I've long thought about wandering around the footpaths next to the reservoirs, but have always opted for the relatively easy option of the Esso garage. Now I have to try it out (thanks for the map/instructions).

Absolute cracking set there Neil!!
Those bank shot's are brilliant, you did well to get the Emirates Animals A380 as it was turning, shows the livery well there
