Advice please.

Postby DeltaCharlieKilo » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:26 am

I have been uploading photos to Planespotters.net for some while now. However, just recently, the images that I upload seem to undergo a colour change during the upload process.

By way of axample, this afternoon I uploaded the same image that I have entered into the current Photo of the Month competition. On checking the image after the upload was complete, it has changed greatly. There is a very definite colour cast across the image which can only have been introduced during upload.

The image just uploaded to Planespotters is here:

Compare that with the exact same photo on the Competitions forum here:

There is a huge difference between the two photos. Can anyone offer an explanation for the change?
Regards,

Laurie.

Hi Laurie

While I can't see the photo on Planespotters.net any more I think I may have a reason for what's happening...

I've found that when a particular colour profile is selected in Adobe products (Photoshop, Photoshop Elements & Lightroom) it saves the colours in such a way that they are incomparable with certain server set up's and web browsers. If you've recently installed a new version of any of the above products the settings may well have changed. I'mn afraid I can't remember which setting is the correct one, but I'd suggest it isn't the one that it's set on now (assuming this is the issue!).

For the record the photo of the month competition shot when I view it has a strong blue cast & severely lacks in contrast (I guess this is what you're talking about?). I am using Google Chrome... Here's an example of one of my dad's pictures that he edited using the wrong setting...

Agree with Stephen, the colour profile you should be using is SRGB, or sRGB IEC61966-2.1 to give it its full name! :thumb:

Stephen, Chris, thanks. I am using LR3 and CS5. Will now go into the settings of each one and check which colour profile is in use.

Laurie.
