Time about 2 pm altitude about 3000 ft heading towards Coventry airport

I've replayed FR24 from 13.30 - 14.30 and nothing fitting your description appears, could it have been an RAF (or USAF) Hercules perhaps? (These don't appear on FR24).

Are there any DH Herons still flying? The original question asks about a four engine piston aircraft.

Cyril, when you say "piston aircraft", do you mean an aircraft with four propeller engines?

If so, what size was it? :)

Most likely DH114 G-AORG which was operating a local flight out of Coventry
