Lookout cafe at BQH

Post by Rugbyref » Mon Jul 06, 2015 6:13 pm

The sign on the door says that the revised opening date is 15 July.

I wonder whether there is any chance they will have an arrivals board?

Now also serving hot food, and the price of a coffee has reduced if you go for the filter coffee rather than Americano - please try them - they are very friendly. :D

Next to the flying club, alongside the Rizon building. It is well signposted.

If you find yourself served by Pauline, talk to her about Cliff Richard - her favourite visitor.

Thinking of visiting BQH at the weekend (weather permitting). A couple of quick questions:

1) Is there car parking at cafe? The website http://aircraftspotting.co.uk/kent-airp ... guides.php seems to say that you shouldn't stay in the car park by the cafe. However the entry for BQH is dated Nov-2012, so pre-dates the Lookout Cafe opening. Is it OK to park in that car park if you are visiting the cafe?

2) What are the views like to various aprons? From Google maps it looks like the cafe would give great views for the runway and aircraft taxiing from Rizon, Castle Air etc but is the main terminal apron visible/photographable? Are there any other spots people can recommend to get views of the various aprons. The above mentioned website says there are no views from the passenger terminal.

The Lookout Café is fine for parking, food and toilets. Large windows inside, picnic area outside. Fine for general view across field.
Fence, with large mesh. Can take ground photos through this if careful and crop where necessary. Have not seen ladders used.
Aerial shots fine, standing back.
Normal problem at BH is the heat haze.
Aircraft parked at Tower side can be seen, but distance and park angle are difficult if you require registrations.
