Wow brings back memories, I worked on the Vanguards after they were converted to freighters and called Merchantmen...

Great stuff, I never saw any British Eagle Viscounts but saw most of their Britannias. My first visit to Heathrow as a spotty youth was in August 1967, lovely sunny days up on the Queen's Buildings.

Happy days. :)

I am told that my 1st visit to Heathrow was as a 4yr old in 1959, when we stayed on holiday with relatives. Oh to have had a camera then!

Yup, Heathrow would have been a mass of DC-3s, DC-4s, DC-6s, DC-7s, Constellations, Vikings, Viscounts etc. in those days.

The terminal would have been on the north-side in 1959, I think that they opened the new terminal in the central area in 1961 (which eventually became known as Terminal 1)

It's good to have you aboard, Robin. :)

Great photos, thanks for sharing. Wish I'd had a camera back in the early 60's but I was a bit young. Actually wish I had my dad's photos from when he was PR for Alitalia, quality photos of new DC8s etc and lots of movie stars etc.

My first flight from Heathrow was Easter 1968 when we flew in a British Eagle B707 (or was it a 720?) to Palma.
