It's cold and wet outside so I've been scanning old slides again, this selection were taken at the 1972 PFA rally at Sywell. I was there helping on the air Britain stand but there were enough of us to give us all turns to have a browse round

starting off with some Beagle Pups (just to keep Mike happy ) I think he was at the same event looking at some of his Pups in the themed topic

Interesting set Andy.

The Comper Swift looks rather characterful, especially with what looks like a radial up front. I can't help feeling that Swift isn't really the right name for it though!

G-APFA doesn't look like a Prentice to me - nowhere near chunky enough.
Edit: G-INFO has it listed as a Druine D.5 Turbi, which to my mind fits well due to the shape of the tail. It's permit expired in 1992 apparently, so probably languishing at the back of a hangar somewhere!

this is a fabulous post.

Great to see Messenger G-AILL, with which I have an association. By 1976 it was no longer airworthy and its dismantled parts were part of a 'job lot' of Messenger and Gemini parts that a group of us acquired back in the late 1980s from Sandy Topen at Bushey. We moved most of the parts to be stored in lock up garages at private addresses in and around Reading and the wing of a Gemini in a barn on the old Woodley airfield. Despite our best intentions we never managed to rebuild a Messenger and Gemini but did however go on to rebuild a number of other Miles, Fairey and Handley Page aircraft. Happy memories.

thanks for the responses guys, apologies re the non- Prentice. Mike also pointed out my error via pm and also confirmed it as the Druine D.5 turbi. My recognition skills re these oldies isn't always what it should be.

Cessna - it's interesting to know of your involvement with the Messenger, fascinating story - thanks for posting it

I'm pleased to know they were of interest. I've got loads more slides to go through as time allows so hope to post some more interesting ones soon

Lovely memories Andy and I'm pretty sure I was there - even more so as there's someone in one of the photos that looks a bit like I would have done all those years ago. In the first photo I see the Land Rover crash wagon - I've got a few b&w of that and the larger fire tender they had for a time. Thanks for posting
