Thanks for that, Garry - their DC-9s and 727s looked good too. :)

Another great set of a/c and memories, thanks! I'm in love the Air Canada DC-8-50F, and well remember that Finnair DC-9-15F and the AmTran 727s that were leased by UK carriers in the late 80s. The PIA DC-10 looks great too.

I don't really understand Air Canada of recent years. They had always used that lovely bold red. They later changed it into not such a strong colour then moved away from it. I felt they lost their identity then and even now when I think of Air Canada I see that DC8 rather than a light blue all over 777.

Yes the 727 DC 9 did look good. Personally I would have ditched the black cockpit surround which I think spoiled the look on the Viscount and Vanguard, but it was still a great livery and very sharp and smart.

All these pics look great and bring back memories.

Oddly I drool over twenty year old pics, but, twenty years ago I appreciated the current stuff but drooled over pics of aircraft taken twenty years before...if you follow.

Odd it might seem to us, but in twenty years time someone might be looking at todays pics and saying "Look at all those Ryanair, those were the days"

I, like many had a tendency not to photograph the current and usual only to later regret it...well it's just another TWA Connie, Pan Am DC 7C or BEA Viscount :(

Today we must make an effort take the pics for the history of tomorrow. At least we're not restriced by how many shots we have on our roll of film and if we have a spare. :)

I'm grateful for those who did take the usual and now put it up here for all of us to enjoy.

Loving the shots from MAN!!!

I reckon we must have unknowingly crossed paths many times at EGCC pal, as some of my shots, such as the ATA B727 are almost identical in terms of other a/c in the background!!

Love the Finnair DC-9 shot over the what was then the GA ramp outside Air Kilroe to the left of the "domestic" pier. I remember getting off the bus from Gatley, paying at the turnstile and running up the stairs to see what was on the apron, many many times. I just wiish I'd taken more opportunities of the "freedom" afforded to us back in the day, when you could walk down the respective piers, and sit at the end!

The Wardair 747 shot also brings back many happy memories. We used to sit on the field at school in Hyde, waiting for its departure of an afternoon, being able to read off the registration with the naked eye from underneath the wings!!

Keep them coming!

Nice 'oddities' ther..thanks a lot for that

It always suprises me how small the 767-200 was. Ok it's big , but, compared to the -300,400 and the TriStars, DC 10 that were arround it it was more akin to the A.310.

Those pics of Heathrow in the mid 90s have brought back some memories, this was around the time I started spotting and around once a month on a Saturday, would catch the train down to London and head out to LHR for a days spotting on the Queens Building. It can't be too long after those pics were taken that the Metro hangars were demolished and the based biz moved out of LHR to other London aerodromes, think there was a Gulfstream with a reg' something like N9999M?

Another fabulous batch. Lots of Soviet hardware, the Shamrock 747s always looked good in that livery, a DC-8 is always welcome (even with girly high-bypass turbofans), and the Air Tanzania is a beauty (except for the nosecone). Presumably on lease from Ethiopian with that reg.

Edit: I've just looked into ET-AIZ and it was indeed on lease to Air Tanzania from Ethiopian for a few months in the early 90s. Sadly this was also the a/c that was hijacked and ditched off the Comoros Islands with the loss of quite a few lives in 1996.

To echo PorkScratching, that Russian hardware :Wow:

This is a great thread, a good bit of nostalgia. Reminds me of standing in Hatton Cross station car park aged 5 with my uncle.

Another interesting set. The Aeroflot An-12 in Arctic livery is great, and it's always a pleasure to see an Il-62. Not the most exciting aircraft I know, but the Regional Saab 340 looks fantastic in that livery.

Some beautiful old jetliners in the latest selection, thanks for posting. I love DC-8s, but the Cyprus 707s always looked fantastic in that livery.
