a nice afternoon's fishing

I started fishing again last year after a break of about 12 years and got the bug so much that this year I've joined a local club.

So far it's going quite well. I've been fishing for carp and after 4 visits I've caught 8 over 10 pounds (i.e. 'doubles' as anglers call them) and last Wednesday I finally caught one over 20 pounds (actually 20 1/2) - never done that before so rather chuffed! Took me about 15 minutes to land it and it broke my landing net

here's a pic of me and it:

I got two more doubles that day plus a 9 pounder, this one was 14 1/2 pounds and I got one at 10 1/4 pounds,

I've got a new net now so just need to find an afternoon to go back for another go! After all it's too hot and too nice to be working on my model railway in this weather.

Great stuff, I've done a lot of fresh water fishing but have always enjoyed sea fishing a lot more, have you ever gone on a sea angling trip from a boat, Andy?
I presume you put the carp back in the water after you've weighed and photographed them?

I've not been sea fishing from a boat since the day (40 years ago)that I was sea sick, stuck on a boat with 5 hours of a 6 hour trip left was NOT fun! I fish from the shore at Mersea occasionally, only caught whiting and some small bass though - nothing big enough to keep.

Yes the carp go straight back, as quickly as possible.

Luckily I've never suffered from sea-sickness and have been on some amazing trips on boats from Eyemouth, Ayr & Stonehaven. It's been a few years since I've been sea fishing, would love to go again one day. :)

I went again last Wednesday for about 4 hours and didn't think it could be better than the previous time.............but it was!
6 carp, biggest 20lb 4oz, another 17-8oz, 13-2oz, 12-12oz,11lb and a smaller one 7-4oz. My best day ever. I lost 3 as well :(

this was the 20 pounder, took me 25 minutes to land it and I needed to sit down for 5 minuts afterwards!...

and the 17 1/2.....

both mirror carp but quite different, the smaller one was fully scaled but the bigger one was the more normal one (or sometimes two) rows of large scales and smooth skin. I only got one common carp this time. Hope to get back soon but 2 busy weeks ahead
