Every 5 years, the Great Torrington Cavaliers build a large, themed, Bonfire with an associated Fireworks display on the Common land on the edge of the North Devon town.
I first went to a Bonfire in 2000, when the theme was Great Fire of London (£40,000 raised for Charities). In 2005, a half-sized replica of HMS Victory was burnt to the ground and raised over £72,000. 2010 saw a Bonfire depicting Torrington Castle raised around £60,000.
This year, the theme was Trumpton, and here are a selection of piccies to give a flavour of the event................

Aww-er! “Interesting and different”. Must be kind of soul-destroying to spend time building something (which doesn’t look half bad!) .. knowing it’s going to go up in flames. Nice pic’s. Thanks for posting.

Thank you.
According to the entry programme, the idea/theme was decided on in 2013, and planning permission was given in early 2014.
I would imagine those involved for the first time experience feelings like you describe, but knowing that the money raised is going to good causes probably helps off set those feelings!

Hi,
Saw it on the local news, but your photographs give a greater perspective.
