Barn owls 31-7-2015

Post by andygolfer » Sat Aug 01, 2015 12:53 pm

and after the kingfishers it was off to North Fambridge in Essex (EWT reserve) to look for barn owls. The brood that featured on their webcam are about to leave the barn and were patiently waiting for the parents to feed them so there was quite a bit of activity but unfortunately not until it was getting dark so my pics ended up grainy as I was on my maximum ISO (128000 !) Here's a few:

where have they got to?

and although this one is a bit grainy it's one of the most memorable photos I have ever managed to take, 3 young barn owls all looking at the camera. The 3 faces were only all visible together for a second or so and although there were 5 of us there I was the only one who caught the moment. Fabulous to watch them and really pleased to have got that pose, If I ever see that again I will be very lucky indeed.

Hope you enjoy them as much as I did when i was watching them
C& C welcome

the last image is a good shot as is the second last of the two together

shame you had to crank the ISO up so much to get the shots, on this front i think the high end Nikon cameras cope better with real high ISO settings than Canon do

I know somebody that was a nikon D3 user and that had a feature that gave a boost up to ISO 25600 and shots taken at that iso indoors were remarkably very good

they are very grainy but it was these or nothing so I had a go best I could. It was very dark by the time I took these, 1/2 hour earlier would have made a big difference
