making comments in the photo competition topics

We run two monthly photo competitions , the Photo Of The Month (POTM) competition and the Specialist Photo Of The Month (SPOTM) which had a different topic every month.

making comments in the photo competition topics

Post by andygolfer » Sat Oct 25, 2014 10:18 am

May I please remind everybody that we do not want to see comments posted in the 'live' photo competitions (rule 10 of the competitions), please co-operate with us by refraining from doing so thak you. Enthusiasm is great but please refrain until voting is complete.

Once the entry date is passed I lock the SPOTM topic (and Paul does the same with POTM) but I am now unlocking the competition topics (not the voting poll) once the voting has finished so that people can add complimentary comments or ask questions re how the winning photos were taken (settings etc) although I cannot guarantee that every question will gain a response. I hope that by allowing comments / questions after the voting is complete will encourage entrants and even moreso encourage new entrants in the future. I will re-lock the topics about 2 months after the voting is complete as by then i expect any questions or comments will have been posted unless there is still a live ongoing discussion.

I dont know if Paul will do the same with POTM

any questions, please post them here and I or one of the other mods will do our best to answer them

many thanks

Andy

Good idea, Andy.

I, for one, would like to add a quick 'thank you' to everyone who has voted for my image and I'm always happy to answer any questions about any of my stuff.

Thanks again to you, and all the mods, for your efforts.

Regards,

Mike

Just a thought but wouldn't it be possible to add a comments thread for each comp so that people can post when questions are fresh in the mind? Or is that another admin nightmare...

Have to say I love the photos but I'm not as regular a visitor as I'd sometimes like so I hope you can see where I'm coming from. I try to enter when I can if I've got something suitable and halfway viewable but most of mine were taken with a battered Zenit E nearly 40 years ago and I haven't looked after the negatives very well.

We prefer to keep the competition thread 'clean' of comments so as not to influence peoples' voting choices but in POTM all the entries have been posted elsewhere so there is an opportunity to ask questions in the topic which contains the original posting of the photo.
I leave the competition threads open after voting has completed for about a month as well so questions can be asked there if desired.

hope that explains the rationale a bit
